Going Back to My Home Town with My Baby! 12 items that we want to take on our Shinkansen Trip
I was thinking of buying Christmas Cake, but its already new year! Time goes by so fast! It’s especially warm this year, so I don’t feel like it’s the end of the year… … I did the minimum necessary cleaning, then we’re going to Aco’s parents house in Miyagi for the New Year’s Holiday. I’ve already booked seats for the Shinkansen, so I need to get the packing done, packing, packing … …
(Please see this post regarding the nursing room and reservations on the Shinkansen)
This time, I will write about “packing to go back to my home town with my baby”!
Use Delivery Service to Send Clothes and Toys in Advance!
First, send bulky clothes and toys to the accomodations (this time my parent’s home) in advance. I sent pla-rails, picture books, and clothing for 3 people.
Make Your Baby’s Stuff Easily Accessible!
You can put all the baby’s things in a bag, and you can put that bag at your feet in the Shinkansen. Something getting spilled, or baby crying, it happens suddenly so have your things easily accessible… …. I take these 12 items with me in the train.
1.Diapers
One diaper per one hour. I take 3 diapers for a 2 and half hour trip.
2. Babywipe
Of course, you can use it when you change your baby’s diaper, as well as when you spill your drink etc.
3. Pouch and Carrier Bag
You can take these to the nursing room and toilet.
4. Handkerchief and Towel
For wiping baby’s mouth and hands, or when baby throws up … … You can make one of them wet and use it to wash your hands.
5. Tissue
For wiping noses, or wiping up after a spill … … It can also be used for making your baby sleep.
(Click here for “How to Make Your Baby Sleep Using Tissue!”)
6. Picture Books and Toys
Sitting is so boring for baby. So, make it easy to pull the usual toys out of the bag.
7. Snacks
Have snacks ready for when baby frets, it’s also good nutrition. Snacks to give “inbetween” times, when you cannot breastfeed your baby.
8. Moisturizer and Cream
It’s dry in the train. You can prevent drying by putting on cream.
9. Garbage bag
Use it for diapers and dirty tissues etc.
10. Mug cups and Drinks
You can drink tea, hot water, juice etc. anytime. You can bring whatever you usually drink.
11. Extra Clothing
In preparation for when something is spilled. Extra clothing can also be used to warm up.
12. Breastfeeding cover
Spread it out quick when you can’t make it to the nursing room or when baby starts to fret.
Bring Store-bought Baby Food
If boarding time overlaps with breast-feeding time, bring store-bought baby food and your usual spoon. Hand-made food put in a Tupperware is good, …but not so hygenic for long trips. Thinking of food safety, it’s best to bring the usual baby food or have it before/after the trip.
